چکیده

We study boundary value problems of the form −∆u = f on Ω and Bu = g on the boundary ∂Ω, with either Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions, where Ω is a smooth bounded domain in Rn and the data f, g are distributions. This problem has to be first properly reformulated and, for practical applications, it is of crucial importance is to obtain the continuity of the solution u in terms of f and g. For f = 0, taking advantage of the fact that u is harmonic on Ω, we provide four formulations of this boundary value problem (one using non-tangential limits of harmonic functions, one using Green functions, one using the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map, and a variational one); we show that these four formulations are equivalent. We provide a similar analysis for f 6= 0 and discuss the roles of f and g, which turn to be somewhat interchangeable in the low regularity case. The weak formulation is more convenient for numerical approximation, whereas the non-tangential limits definition is closer to the intuition and easier to check in concrete situations. We extend the weak formulation to polygonal domains using weighted Sobolev spaces. We also point out some new phenomena for the “concentrated loads” at the vertices in the polygonal case.

Linear Elliptic Boundary Value Problems with Non-smooth Data: Normal Solvability on Sobolev–Campanato Spaces

In this paper linear elliptic boundary value problems of second order with non-smooth data (L∞-coefficients, Lipschitz domains, regular sets, non-homogeneous mixed boundary conditions) are considered. It is shown that such boundary value problems generate Fredholm operators between appropriate Sobolev–Campanato spaces, that the weak solutions are Hölder continuous up to the boundary and that th...

Analysis of the Finite Element Method for Transmission/mixed Boundary Value Problems on General Polygonal Domains

We study theoretical and practical issues arising in the implementation of the Finite Element Method for a strongly elliptic second order equation with jump discontinuities in its coefficients on a polygonal domain Ω that may have cracks or vertices that touch the boundary. We consider in particular the equation − div(A∇u) = f ∈ H(Ω) with mixed boundary conditions, where the matrix A has variab...

Periodic boundary value problems for controlled nonlinear impulsive evolution equations on Banach spaces

This paper deals with the Periodic boundary value problems for Controlled nonlinear impulsive evolution equations. By using the theory of semigroup and fixed point methods, some conditions ensuring the existence and uniqueness. Finally, two examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Existence of three solutions for a class of fractional boundary value systems

In this paper, under appropriate oscillating behaviours of the nonlinear term, we prove some multiplicity results for a class of nonlinear fractional equations. These problems have a variational structure and we find three solutions for them by exploiting an abstract result for smooth functionals defined on a reflexive Banach space. To make the nonlinear methods work, some careful analysis of t...

Regularity estimates for elliptic boundary value problems with smooth data on polygonal domains

We consider the model Dirichlet problem for Poisson’s equation on a plane polygonal convex domain W with data f in a space smoother than L2. The regularity and the critical case of the problem depend on the measure of the maximum angle of the domain. Interpolation theory and multilevel theory are used to obtain estimates for the critical case. As a consequence, sharp error estimates for the cor...
